The last day of August brought me fortune in the form of a couple of nice families who joined me in the Everglades for a full day safari! Mike, Matt, Kyle and Samantha from New York, and Mike, Emily, Jim, Loretta and Sam from Pennsylvania certainly brightened an otherwise gloomy day!
The weather was "pending" all day with rain close at hand but we reversed the order of our day and went out on an airboat ride first thing! It was wonderful and Captain Kempton treated us to some pretty up close and personal encounters with some pretty mean looking gators! Then from there we went on into the mosquito infested swamps and experienced the humid, wet environment of the magnificent tall cypress swamp. We even ran upon a 5 and a half foot yellow rat snake on the path that gave us all a little start as he ventured out from under the fence separating the path from the Indian Village.
Lunch was wonderful as always and the blackened fish sandwiches seemed to hit the spot for most of us and then on to the museum where my narration of the day was solidified in pictures and words as they saw the history of the everglades come alive there.
The folks held snakes, and alligators, played with tortoises, and birds and Sam got bit by a 2 week old gator and Samantha got bit by a Spur thigh Tortoise! WOW! Glad the gator was not big! Good job guys! I had such a good time and even our ride home through the countryside viewing the rain as it slid across the prairie lands and wetlands reminded us of the Majesty of the Everglades!
I will remember this journey for a long time and my new found friends from NY and PA! Thank you all for making it special for me! Gator D is on his way to another adventure! Don't forget to check out the links on the right side of this page for "Trip Advisor - Everglades Adventures". See you later alligators!
I have thrown in a picture of two bald eagles I captured last week in the mangroves of Estero Bay thought you guys would enjoy!
Well Gator D is ready to head out for his next adventure so for now SEE YOU LATER ALLIGATORS!
